Aaron Siri Presents on the Childhood Immunization Schedule

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is a federal advisory committee that develops recommendations on the use of vaccines in the civilian population of the United States. The committee is chaired by Dr. Robert Malone.

Day two of the ACIP opens with the highly-contested Hep B Vaccine recommendation votes. Then the meeting shifts focus to broader vaccine policy topics. The committee will hear updates on CDC’s vaccine risk monitoring efforts, review the history and future of the childhood and adolescent immunization schedule presented by Aaron Siri, Esq., followed by discussions on adjuvants and contaminants. It’s a wide-ranging session with implications for vaccine safety and scheduling guidance.

Mr. Siri’s presentation focused on the importance of clinical trials relied upon to license childhood vaccines, since ACIP often recommends these vaccines shortly after licensure. It also reviews the lack of post-licensure safety data and ended with efficacy issues that ACIP should consider when making decisions. While Paul Offit and Peter Hotez were also invited to speak, both declined the invitation.
