Aqueous Film Firefighting Foams (AFFF)

AFFF is a chemical-based foam that is used by firemen and military personnel to cover and extinguish fires. It is much more effective in fighting fires than just using water. However, the foam contains PFAS chemicals that may cause harm to humans and the environment. Some of the side effects experienced by people who used the foam include kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, thyroid cancer, thyroid disease, liver cancer, breast cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, ulcerative colitis, and kidney disease. Hair Straightener Chemicals

Paraquat

Paraquat is a weed-killing herbicide that is restricted to commercial farming due to its high toxicity. It is sold under many different brand names. Most commonly it is sold under the brand name Gramoxone. Farmers and agricultural laborers are most at risk for exposure, however, if you live near a commercial farm, you may have been exposed to this toxic weed-killing chemical as well.

Paraquat has been linked to Parkinson’s Disease, as well as other side effects. Chronic exposure to Some studies have found that paraquat raises your risk of developing Parkinson’s Disease by 200 – 600%. In fact, paraquat has been banned in 32 countries including China and the European Union. Meanwhile, it is not only still used in the United States, but its use is growing.

Roundup

Roundup is a weed killer whose main ingredient is glyphosate, which was deemed “probably carcinogenic in humans” by the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer in 2015.

While the FDA and EPA have declared glyphosate safe and it remains in products on the market, research has found an up to 70% increased risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after long-term exposure to Roundup. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma affects the lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s immune system. Symptoms include swollen lymph nodes (neck, armpit, groin), chest or stomach pain, coughing, trouble breathing, fatigue, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss.

Talcum Powders

Talcum powder is made from talc, which is a clay mineral mined from the earth, and is an ingredient in many different hygiene products, cosmetics, deodorants, baby powder products, diaphragms, and condoms. Many talcs are also contaminated with asbestos, and studies have linked exposure to talc with cervical, uterine, ovarian and endometrial cancers, as well as mesothelioma.
