About the KeyBank Data Breach

KeyBank is a regional bank based out of Cleveland, Ohio.  It has branches in 15 other states and employs more than 17,000 people.  KeyBank consumer data was compromised in a third-party data breach, which means that KeyBank mortgage customers’ information was accessed when hackers targeted the network of the insurance provider Overby-Seawell Company. KeyBank was notified of the data breach on August 4.

Financial data breaches are serious matters.  They can be costly and time-consuming to correct. Aside from the violation of having your private information breached, there is also a real risk of financial harm. People affected by the breach are at risk of unauthorized charges on their accounts, suffering financial losses,  and a disruption to their own ability to access their funds when the fraud is discovered.

How do you know if you were affected?

KeyBank says that it sent out notification letters to the thousands of individuals it believes were affected by the data breach.
