About the Commonwealth Care Alliance of California Data Breach

On November 15, 2022, Commonwealth Care Alliance of California reported that their computer network had experienced a data breach.  The hackers who breached their system were able to access the following patient information:

  • Names
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Government issued ID numbers (passports and driver’s licenses)
  • Protected health information (medical diagnoses, lab results, prescriptions, etc.)

The information was accessed and removed from Commonwealth Care Alliance of California’s network between May 4, 2022 and September 16, 2022.

The dangers of such a breach include having your personal information sold on the dark web to people who then use it to commit identity theft and financial fraud. Once this happens, the ramifications to your credit, reputation and finances can last years.

On November 15, Commonwealth Care Alliance of California sent out letters notifying patients whose information was involved in the breach.
