About the American Health Imaging Data Breach

American Health Imaging has MRI centers in Texas, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. They do many types of health imaging and service thousands of patients.

On September 8, 2022, American Health Imaging reported that it had been hacked in a data breach incident.  It is believed the hackers obtained patients’ names,  social security numbers, personal medical information, and health insurance information!

Given the personal and sensitive nature of medical information, healthcare data breaches are very concerning. Aside from the privacy risks, there is also a real risk of financial harm. Bad actors who either stole this information or who purchase it on the dark web, may attempt to obtain medical care in a victim’s name, or use the information for other forms of identity theft such as opening accounts in victims’ names.

How do you know if you were affected?

American Health Imaging says that it sent out notification letters to the thousands of patients it believes were affected by the data breach.
